Valley Press Club Scholarships
Applications for Valley Press Club Scholarships must be submitted by April 1, each year, to the address at the bottom of this page, or electronically to scholarship@valleypressclub.com High school students can obtain applications from their school guidance counselors, or download an application here.
Every June, the Press Club awards five students, planning to study journalism in college, with $1000 scholarships, at the Annual Scholarship event. Need more information? or email us: info@valleypressclub.com
Mr. Albert M. Jaffe, Vice President of Talent Recruitment for ESPN, the Valley Press Club's very first scholarship reciepient in 1964, attended the 2008 Annual Scholarship event.
The Valley Press Club is deeply grateful to WWLP Television and the Republican Newspapers for underwriting two of the five annual
Press Club scholarships.

The 2009 scholarship winners are, from left to right:
JAMES W. GRZELAK, of Southwick, a graduate of The MacDuffie School in Springfield where he was editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, will also receive a Valley Press Club Scholarship. Grzelak, an Eagle Scout, who posted perfect 800 scores on the Critical Reading and Writing portions of the SAT test, plans to attend Williams College.
ARIANA E. SANDILLO, of West Springfield, a graduate of West Springfield High School, will receive the Channel 22 Scholarship, funded by WWLP-TV and administered by the club. It is awarded to a student planning a career in broadcast journalism. Sandillo, who was editor-in-chief of her school newspaper, plans to attend Emerson College.
FRANK P. KELLEHER, a graduate of Westfield High School. Kelleher, who served as president of his class for three years, plans to major in broadcast journalism at Emerson College.

ELIZABETH M. MURRAY of Adams, a graduate of Hoosac Valley High School, where she ranked third in her class and was co-editor-in-chief of the school newspaper,, will receive a Valley Press Club Scholarship. She plans to major in communications at St. Michael's College in Vermont.
CATHERINE L. THOMPSON, a graduate of West Springfield High School where she ranked fourth in her class and was special sections editor of the school newspaper, will receive a Valley Press Club Scholarship. She plans to attend New York University.
KATHERINE R. GLIDDEN, a graduate of Holyoke High School and news editor of the school newspaper, will receive The Republican Scholarship, funded by the newspaper and awarded to a student planning a career in print journalism. Glidden will attend Quinnipiac University.
